Last night's Kauai tsunami warning ends in an "all clear" this morning
All clear issued for Oahu as daybreak brings reports of tsunami damage
(StarAdvertiser link above)
Tsunami warning was cancelled this morning. Damages to Kauai are very minimal, if any. Today is a beautiful day....it is not your normal sunny day with tropical tradewinds. It is actually kinda cooler than usual for this time of year, overcast and raining intermittently....but today is a beautiful day! God was merciful on Hawaii...on Kauai!

An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 in the region of Honshu Japan has generated a tsunami watch for the island of Kauai. News reports claim this to be the worst earthquake to hit Japan. We are currently in a tsunami watch. It is 1:37am, the tsunami is expected to hit at 3:07am. Kauai is expected to be the first Hawaiian island hit by the tsunami. The attached link provides information for those who are needing a place to stay while waiting out the tsunami watch.
It is quiet and dark outside. Many people have moved up to higher ground. Cellphones and phone land lines are down. Our only mode of communication right now is via the internet. We await the tides. I pray God's mercy on Kauai.

Kauai Tsunami Watch cancelled
Tsunami warning sirens went off at 6:00am. I was wondering why my alarm sounded so different this morning. My wife and I had set our alarms for an early Saturday morning in preparation for the Mayor's Prayer Luncheon that was to be held at the Marriott today. Our church's worship team was to provide the music. 700+ people were to attend. However, after tuning in to KQNG radio and hearing the Mayor on the airwaves, we realized that the morning plans for many people were going to be cancelled or postponed.
However, at 2:00pm, an official announcement made by the Kauai Civil Defense, cancelled the tsunami watch. Mahalo to the Kauai Civil Defense team, Mayor Bernard, KQNG radio and all those involved in keeping our community informed with up to date coverage on the tsunami. And most importantly, Mahalo Ke Akua!
