Celebrate the New Year 2018 at Poipu Beach Park...

Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and join us for the annual New Year's Eve Fireworks celebration on Poipu Beach. We will be showing a family-friendly movie on the big outdoor screen followed by the fireworks show. The spectacular fireworks display will begin at 8:15pm sharp. Food trucks will be lined up to keep bellies happy.

      2016 Waimea Christmas Parade

       Road closures for Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade WAIMEA:

      The annual Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m.
      The parade will begin at Waimea Canyon Middle School parking lot to Huakai Road. The route continues down Waimea Canyon Drive to Kaumuali‘i Highway, then turns onto Alawai Road to Waimea Road, ending at Hofgaard Park. To accommodate the parade, the Kaua‘i Police Department will close off all streets along the parade route. Road closures will begin shortly at approximately 5:30 p.m. and roads will remain closed until about 8:30 pm. No parking will be allowed along the parade route. The Kaua'i Police Department will be manning road closures and will reopen streets as the parade clears. Motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations as traffic delays are expected.

      A fun event for the whole family, "Movies In The Park", August 12, 2016, Friday.  Come to Poipu Beach Park and look for the inflatable screen. Food vendors will be on hand to provide snacks and other food items.  This is a drug free, alcohol free family event.

      Celebrating 31 years of Koloa Plantation Days festivities on the island of Kauai. July 22, 2016 starts the week long festivities that commemorate the sugar industry and culture of Koloa town. Activities include a parade and park celebration, food booths, crafts, rodeo, movies in the park, historic trail walk, sunset ho'olaulea, miniature golf tournament, culinary market, polynesian revue, ukulele contest, family fun/run walk, and much more.       Waimea round up rodeo @ the friendship do ranch (old waimea dairy) Traditional rodeo events including paniolo poʻowalu and double mugging, which are unique to Hawaiʻi rodeos. Team Roping on Friday (10 am - 5:30 pm) is FREE for spectators. Saturdayʻs events begin at 10 am with a special Opening Ceremony that includes inducting a talented cowboy into the Nā Paniolo Kauaʻi a me Niʻihau 2016 Hall of Fame.        3-on-3 basketball tournament @ waimea canyon park basketball courts This is the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament on the island and benefits the Westside Basketball Club. All games are held at the Waimea Canyon Park Basketball Courts on the corner of Huakaʻi Road and Kaumualiʻi Highway. The cost is $10/player (school division) and $25/player (adult division). Late Registration is $30/player. Adult Male Teamsʻ Late Registration is at 5 pm on Friday with games from 6 pm - 9 pm. Youth Teamsʻ Late Registration is 8 am on Saturday with games from 9 am - 4 pm.       Waimea town celebration regatta @ waimea landing Traditional Hawaiian outrigger canoes race along the Waimea shoreling competing in the Century (+300), Half-Century (+150) and Quarter-Century (+75) Divisions for Men, Women and mixed crews. Lunch will be provided to all paddlers and the Awards Ceremony begins at 1:00 pm. A food concession will be on site and admission is FREE.       Paniolo Hat Lei contest @ west kauaʻi visitor center Make a lei that a cowboy would be proud to wear on a cowboy hat and enter it in 1 of 2 categories: "Most Beautiful" (use only fresh materials) and "Most Unique" (any material is acceptable). Lei are to be dropped off between 7 am - 9 am on Friday (02.19) and judging until noon. All lei will be available for viewing from noon to 6 pm on Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. Sign up at 11:30 am on Saturday (2/20) next to the big stage at the Old Waimea Mill Site. The contest begins at noon. Age categories are as follows: (1) 5 to 8 years old; (2) 9 to 15 years old; (3) 16 to 25 years old; (4) 26 to 35 years old; (5) 36 to 54 years old; and (6) 55+ years and older.       Scotty's Music ʻUkulele Contest | 1:00 pm @ old waimea mill site Sign up on Saturday (2/20) from 10 am - 12:45 pm at the Information Booth at the Old Waimea Mill site. Rules are (1) 3 minutes maximum per song; (2) 1 song per entry; (3) Soloists only, no groups allowed; (4) Judged on presentation, tone, showmanship, difficulty of song and overall performance. Only ʻukulele talent will be judged, not singing. Age Groups: Up to 6th grade; 7th to 9th grade; 10th to 12th grade; and Adults. Prizes: Every player will walk away with a prize!       Waimea Christmas Parade 2015


      Come down to Waimea this Saturday, December 19th for the 21st annual "Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade".    The parade originates from Waimea Canyon School parking lot to Huakai Road.  The route continues down Waimea Canyon Drive to Kaumuali'i Highway, then turns onto Alawai Road to Waimea road, ending at Hofgaard Park (center of Waimea town, in front of First Hawaiian Bank).  After the parade, stay and enjoy live, staged music and entertainment  till 11:00pm 

      This is a very popular community event, as will be evidenced by beach chairs, coolers, beach towels/mats, etc.  used to reserve viewing spots along the parade route.  Some of the items will even appear along the route as early as the night before the parade.   Mini parties (like tailgating) will be happening during the parade and continue on after the parade.  It is a very festive and happy time for  Kauai's western town of Waimea.   Drive carefully.  Live Aloha.

      NOTE:  Waimea parade route roads will close shortly after 5pm and remain closed until about 8:30pm.  That means the  Waimea Bridge road will probably be blocked during that time.

      Kauai Marathon - Traffic Advisory for September 6, 2015, Sunday


      2015 Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon Traffic Advisory

      The Kauai Marathon race organizers are gearing up for the 2015 Kauai Marathon on Sunday, September 6, 2015. The race begins at 6:00 am and while traffic will flow in and around the Koloa, Poipu, Lawai and Kalaheo areas, there will be some lane and road closures between 5:00 am and 2:30 pm.  To ensure the safety of both runners and drivers, please exercise caution and patience when driving on the Southside on Sunday. The Kauai Police Department (KPD) and Garden Island Security will monitor traffic flow throughout the course(s).
      All times listed below are approximate.
      Road Closures:
      • Access into Koloa and Poipu will be limited to Koloa Rd and Omao Rd until 6:30am. From 6:30am until 8:00am, there will be no inbound traffic other than emergency vehicles into Koloa and Poipu. PLEASE PLAN AND SCHEDULE ACCORDINGLY.
      • Poipu Road will be closed from Kapili Road to the Koloa Bypass, (Ala Kinoiki) from 5:30 am until 6:15 am. • Ho’onani Road will be closed from 5:00 am until 2:30 pm from Lawai Road to Kapili Road. Traffic will continue to flow in and out of the Sheraton Kauai Resort via Kapili Road.
      • Koloa Road inbound lane from Highway 50 will be closed from 6:30 am until 1:30 pm. The outbound lane from Koloa Road to Highway 50 will also be closed during this time.
      • Lauoho Road, Waha Road and Pu’u Roads will be closed to thru traffic from 7:15 am until 12:30 pm. All residents living in this area are advised to use extreme caution. • Omao Road from Highway 50 to Koloa Road will be closed to thru traffic from 6:30 am until 9:30 am. All residents living in this area are advised to use extreme caution.
      • The Koloa Bypass, (Ala Kinoiki), will be closed from 6:00 am until 7:45 am.
      • Maluhia Road both inbound and outbound to and from the Koloa Bypass through to Highway 50 will be closed to traffic from 6:00 am until 8:00 am. All traffic on Maluhia and the Koloa Bypass (Ala Kinoiki) will return to normal shortly before 8:00 am.
      Partial Closures:
      • Highway 50 from Maluhia west to Omao Road will be restricted to alternating one-way traffic in the mauka lane from 6:30 am until approximately 8:30 am. Traffic flow will be monitored by KPD at both Maluhia and Omao Roads.
      • Papalina Road from Waha to Pu’u Road will be restricted to alternating one-way traffic in the mauka lane from 7:15 am until 12:00 pm. Traffic flow will be monitored by KPD at both ends.
      • As runners retrace their steps via Papalina, Waha, Lauoho and Koloa Roads, the roads will re-open as indicated above once all of the runners have passed.
      • Kukui’ula Bypass (Ala Kalanikaumaka) will be closed from 6:15 am until 2:00 pm. Outbound traffic from the Poipu roundabout to Koloa Road will remain open.
      • The Poipu Roundabout will be heavily impacted and traffic will be slowed considerably from 6:45 am until 2:00 pm as runners enter the roundabout from Kukui’ula Bypass.
      • Westbound Lawai Road and Spouting Horn traffic will be re-routed through The Shops at Kukui’ula.
      In summary, traffic will flow in and out of all south shore regions, but it is recommended that travel in these areas on race day be limited from 5:00 am until 2:30 pm. For those visitors and residents needing to reach Lihue airport from the south or west side, please plan at least 1.5 to 2 hours travel time.       Reminders:  Event is on a naval base, so all vehicles will be subject to search.  No riding on pickup beds will be allowed.  Seatbelts must be worn by ALL passengers.  NO outside food or beverages, coolers, tents, pets, weapons (including knives) or personal fireworks will be allowed.  All backpacks are subject to search.

      Kauai Hospice 26th Annual Concert in the Sky
      Date: July 4, 2015, Saturday

      Cost:  $15, $7 (ages 6-12), Advance ticket sales at all Times/Big Save Market $10, $5(ages 6-12)
