Kauai Dept of Water - Sept 1, water closure Wailaau Rd and Waihohonou Rd, Koloa
News Release
For Immediate Release: August 31, 2016
Water shutdown scheduled for Wailaau, Waihohonou roads on Sept. 1
KOLOA – The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a 5-hour water shutdown for customers located
on Wailaau Road and Waihohonou Road, in Koloa, on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather
permitting. The shutdown will allow the DOW to make waterline maintenance repairs in the area.
The DOW notified affected customers door-to-door Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.
Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.
Drive with caution and allow extra travel time while proceeding through the area.
A trailer-mounted water tank providing potable water for affected customers will be located near
the intersection of Wailaau Road and Aloha Place. Customers must bring their own containers.
After the repairs are completed and the water main is turned back on, air may be mixed into the
water causing it to appear white or milky in color. This is normal and the air in the water will
eventually dissipate. If this occurs, water can be flushed out through an outside hose bib until the
water is clear.
The DOW apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience and cooperation
while improvements are being made.
